Identify Your Skin Type
A Quick Guide to Identifying Your Skin Type:
Healthy skin is balanced, soft, and supple, with fine pores and an even tone. Different skin types require appropriate care and the right products. The goal is to achieve normal, healthy skin that neither gets too oily nor too dry or tight. There should also be no irritation or itching.
An easy way to test your skin type is to first cleanse and wash your face thoroughly, then leave your skin without any products for 2-3 hours, and afterward press a piece of tissue paper against your skin. You can see the result on the paper:
- If there are clear marks on the paper, you have oily skin.
- If the paper is clean, you have dry skin. (At this stage, dry skin likely also feels tight and in need of moisturization.)
- If there are barely visible marks on the paper, you have normal skin. Press the paper on different parts of your face to test if you have combination skin.
SKIN TYPES
Here is a brief overview of different skin types and selected products suitable for them.
Dry Skin
Dry skin feels tight after washing. It flakes easily and requires a lot of moisture. Dry skin is sensitive to temperature changes and sunlight. The most important part of caring for dry skin is improving its moisture retention capabilities and strengthening and protecting the skin.
We recommend for dry skin: Pre-treatment creams and oils, aftershave balms, alum block
Oily Skin
Oily skin has a shiny, greasy surface, and pores are clearly visible. It is prone to acne and blackheads, especially in the T-zone. The care of oily skin is important to reduce sebum production and to cleanse and tighten pores.
Especially from these products, you will find help for treating impure skin:
Normal Skin
Normal skin is balanced, it does not feel tight after washing nor does it get oily. Acne and other impurities are rare in normal skin. The main thing in caring for normal skin is light moisturization.
If you have normal skin, you can safely choose any product from our range.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is the most common skin type in Finland. It is a combination of dry, oily, and normal skin types. The T-zone is often impure, while the cheeks may be dry and flaky. In caring for combination skin, focus on tightening pores, thoroughly cleansing and protecting the skin, and achieving moisture balance. Products should be chosen based on the most prevalent skin type present.
We recommend selecting cleansing and moisturizing products for combination skin.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is thin and appears somewhat translucent. The blood vessels in sensitive skin are often close to the surface and can be clearly visible. Weather, wind, and even dry office air mostly affect sensitive skin. Common problems for sensitive skin include redness, stinging, and itching. Often dry skin is considered sensitive, but all skin types can have sensitive features. The most important thing in caring for sensitive skin is to support and strengthen it.
We recommend these gentle products for sensitive skin: all of our unscented range products and especially moisturizing aftershave balms that are unscented or lightly scented.
Acne-Prone Skin
Acne can affect any skin type. It may be caused by an infection or an overproduction of testosterone. Acne often starts in youth when sebum production is at its highest. If your acne does not require medical treatment, we recommend acidic cleansers and light, non-greasy, water-rich basic creams for acne-prone skin.
