Alvarez Gomez

The story of Álvarez Gómez started more than 100 years ago, when three cousins, Herminio Alvarez Gómez, Belarmino Gómez and Emilio Vuelta Gómez from León, Northern Province of Spain, decided to move to Madrid in search of fortune. They started their activity together in a drugstore of their relative, located on Peligros street in Madrid. These young men took an important step for their future and bought the store.

In 1899 they moved to a new store in 2 Sevilla Street in Madrid. It was then, for the first time the name “ALVAREZ GOMEZ” appeared as the sign of the store. They used Herminio's names, because he was the one who had made the biggest investment for the business.

In 1912 they started manufacturing the traditional Eau de Cologne “Agua de Colonia Concentrada Alvarez Gómez”, as we know it nowadays. Travelers brought the formula for “Eau de Cologne” to Madrid from Central Europe. But Álvarez Gómez wanted to improve the formula with the essential elements: lemon, bergamot, rosemary, geranium, which could be found of much better quality in Spain. It had to be clean, fresh and pure. 

Ever since Álvarez Gómez has been synonymous with tradition, distinction, quality and style. It´s bottle with Art Deco design is familiar, not only in many Spanish homes, but also in some of the best and most prestigious hotels and restaurants in Spain. Later, Álvarez Gómez started expanding by opening new stores and developed the Alvarez Gómez seal of excellence, class and elegance.

Today, a fourth generation of the family is involved in the project of keep the brand updated in the extremely competitive world we live in by exporting and developing new products.
